Economic Development - Better Communities with Fuller Lives

Economic Development Quanah Texas

“The ultimate resource in economic development is people. It is people, not capital or raw materials that develop an economy.” Peter Drucker

What is economic development?

The International Economic Development Council defines Economic Development as the creation of jobs and wealth and the improvement of quality of life. Economic development is a process that influences growth and stimulates an economy to increase the well being of a community. It involves not only jobs, but other more narrowly focused issues like availability of housing, health care, good schools, parks, higher education, and everything in between. It also means taking care of businesses that already exist. In short, anything that makes your community more attractive and livable fits under the umbrella of economic development.

QEDC is a Type B corporation, described by the Texas Comptroller as a developer of industry and cultivator of community. Type B corporations can fund projects that acquire real estate for the likes of public parks, affordable housing, and more. Type B corporations may also fund public safety and recycling facilities, infrastructure improvements, and even demolitions of existing structures to develop new and existing businesses that create or retain jobs.

Economic development is essential to our Quanah’s sustainability and growth. If you have vested interest in Quanah and would like to share ideas about what you’d like to see in this town, please feel free to email me with any input at edc@cityofquanah.com. I look forward to hearing from you all.
